Tribute to a Fallen Hero

Name: SSGT Larry Theis
KIA May 22, 1970
Unit: 'C' Company

Larry Theis

The pictures in this album were taken by Staff Sargeant Larry Theis, one of our fallen heros. Larry was killed in action defending freedom.  During the period 18 to 30 May 1970 the Triple Deuce battled elements of the 9th NVA Division along the Cambodian/Vietnam border, where the Triple Deuce lost 14 soldiers and many others  wounded during fights near Krek in what is now known as "Ambush Alley"...  the elevated road, surrounded by brush on one side and rice paddies on the other, was totally in a location that favored the NVA, due to the beginning of monsoon season, tracked vehicles were easily mired and had to stay on those narrow roads making ambush all too easy.

On 22 May 1970 Larry Theis and his friend Bill Jensen were killed along with six other members of C Company and one member of the Recon platoon, when the NVA attacked the lead and rear elements of the Triple Deuce which was in a battalion size convoy headed back into Cambodia.

SGT Larry Theis was 22 years old and hailed from New Riegel, Ohio. He had been recommended for promotion to Staff Sergeant just prior to the battle that took his life. These pictures were taken by Larry and provided by his family in his memory...

A very special thank you to Larry's family for allowing us the honor of posting his pictures and to Larry's neice, Kim, for sending us the pictures.
